Okay? If you are poor and you want an education, unless you get a full ride you are going to be burdened with debt.Debt that will be hard for you to get from under.You can’t even file bankruptcy. But if I ran up 35,000 in credit card debt I could.

Our own president and first lady was just able to pay off their debt. All of us can’t write a best seller memoir tho.

I already know I won’t be able to pay for my kid to go to school. The cycle will continue unless shit changes.

As a foster parent (having fostered 6 different children, and on the way to adopting four of them) and a Christian there is nothing more infuriating than Christians who shout “pro-life” from the hilltops but don’t help with foster care and adoption. Or shriek about gay couples adopting foster children when millions of Christians won’t even go into the system.

I constantly here people complain, “it’s too hard.” Tough. Being a foster child is hard.

Foster care and adoption through foster care is as pro-life as you can get. Liberals and conservatives alike should be climbing over each other to help these kids but too many of us are still living in an ABC Afterschool Special world where we think that foster children are going to come in and hurt other children, steal our jewelry or run away at the age of 14.

Do these things happen? Probably. I have not yet met a foster parent who has had them happen.

Oh and unlike international adoption it costs you nothing. We have not had to outlay any money in the care of our children (unless we chose to). Their medical needs are covered. Our legal costs are covered. Unforeseen medical issues (ex. if someone later develops depression or bipolar disorder) are covered.

May is National Foster Care Month. Check it out and go help. Now.
