A non-fiction book called The Loom by Shella Gillus and I just can’t.
It’s a story of a light skinned black slave woman named Lydia who dreams of freedom. She is the slave/playmate of the Master’s daughter. Lydia is a master seamstress who is caught one day wearing the clothes of the white woman. The daughter exclaims, “You look just like a lady!” The drama ensues and I just can’t with this book.
I can’t imagine that any slave with a lick of sense would get caught up in the drama she does. She ran off with her white folks clothes and no money and a prayer.
